Getting started
What is Typeoff?
Typeoff is a voice input tool — hold the trigger key, speak, and your words are typed at the cursor. Available on macOS and Windows.
How do I trigger recording?
On macOS, hold the Fn key. On Windows, hold the Right Ctrl key. You can also use tap-to-toggle mode: tap once to start, tap again to stop. See Recording modes.
Which apps does it work with?
Any app that accepts text input — browsers, chat apps, code editors, Office, and more. Typeoff inserts text via clipboard paste, so compatibility is very broad.
Speech recognition
What languages are supported?
Over 60 languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, and more. You can change the recognition language in settings. See Language settings.
What is the difference between cloud and local mode?
Cloud mode (default) sends audio to the server for transcription — it's faster and more accurate, with real-time streaming support. Local mode uses an on-device Whisper model for fully offline transcription, ideal for privacy-sensitive use. See Local mode.
Can I use Typeoff without internet?
Yes. Enable local mode for fully offline use. Cloud mode also falls back to local mode automatically when there is no network.
What is AI enhancement?
AI enhancement can automatically fix grammar, adjust formatting, or even translate your transcription. You can enable it and choose a processing style in settings. See AI enhancement.
Text insertion
Why isn't the text being inserted at my cursor?
On macOS, Typeoff needs Accessibility permission to detect the cursor and simulate paste. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and grant access to Typeoff.
On Windows, security software that blocks clipboard access may prevent insertion.
What happens when no editable field is detected?
Typeoff shows a notification with the transcribed text and a copy button, so you can paste it manually wherever you need.
Account & subscription
What are the limits of the free plan?
The free plan allows 8,000 words per week, resetting every Monday at UTC 00:00. Unused quota does not roll over. See Plans.
How do I upgrade to PRO?
Log in and visit the Dashboard or Pricing page to choose monthly ($9.90/mo) or yearly ($99/yr).
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to the Dashboard and click cancel. Your PRO benefits remain active until the end of the current billing cycle.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. You can request a full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked.
Privacy & security
Is my audio stored?
No. In cloud mode, audio is used only for real-time transcription and discarded immediately after — it is never stored on the server. In local mode, audio never leaves your device.
Is local mode fully offline?
Yes. Local mode uses an on-device Whisper model. All audio processing happens locally with no network connection required.
Troubleshooting
The trigger key doesn't respond?
- macOS: Make sure Accessibility permission is granted (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility)
- Windows: Make sure you're pressing the Right Ctrl key, not the left one
- Check if another app is using the same shortcut
No transcription after recording?
- Check that microphone permission is granted
- In cloud mode, check your internet connection
- Try switching to local mode to test
Can I change the trigger key?
Yes. You can customize the trigger key in settings. See Trigger key.
